Columbus makes it to ISS

It's 1:45 p.m. and I'm just waking up. Working the overnight shifts are a little strange to say the least. So, the Shuttle docked with ISS yesterday and the mission is fully underway, well sort of. The EVA that is supposed to be performed today has been delayed because one of the EV crew members has become ill. My guess is just the standard space illness. From what little I know when some of the astronauts get into space the undergo some "space adaptation sickness". It's essentially some heavy duty motion sickness. When your body is in micro gravity the little hairs in your ear that help orient you are no longer helping! Therefore your brain has a hard time keeping it straight... and hence you get sick.

Here's the EVA if you are interested in watching and understanding the work that's coming up.

As a result of the EVA getting pushed back the planners had quite a load on their hands last night trying to replan the mission while the crew was asleep. It's fascinating how fast the team can pull it together. Shifting crew activities and ground commanding with hardly any time and coordinating with Europeans and Russians no less. Fun stuff. From what I've heard our ill astronaut is feeling better, hopefully we can press on with the rest of the mission on time.
